Have you ever read or listened to a book that made you stop dead in your tracks? I listen to a lot of books as I’m getting ready and then as I make the drive to Fort Gordon and home. I am a huge thriller, suspense and mystery fan. I love an episode of Murder She Wrote and I’ve read all of those books (yes there are books). Just think of me as a younger Jessica Fletcher, always on the case.
Recently I listened to The Wife Stalker by Liv Constantine and I almost pulled over on the way to work, because I was too stunned to think!
Did you know that Liv Constantine is a pen name for sisters Valerie and Lynne Constantine, who are worldwide bestselling authors. Books include The Last Mrs. Parrish, which is set to become a Netflix production. The Wife Stalker debuted in May 2020 and could definitely be Lifetime Move or Netflix move. Told in the points of view of Joanna and Piper, we spend our time in a swanky beachside town located in Connecticut. We also meet husband Leo, children Evie and Stelli along with Joanna’s cranky mother and her therapist Celeste.
Joanna, worried about Leo’s recent bout of depression, suggests he visit the local wellness center. While attending a meditation course, Leo meets Piper, the beautiful owner of the center. Without giving too much away, as you can imagine, Joanna is not happy and sets out on a mission to find out more about Piper. What she finds out is shocking! Why do people in her life keep dying? Why won’t Leo listen to her concerns? Her mother, angry at all men, tells her to just forget about things and move on. Her therapist dismisses the concerns as being paranoid. Joanna does everything in her power to keep her children safe from Piper’s clutches, but Leo just won’t listen, so what must a woman do? Possibly follow them on their Christmas vacation!
Throughout the story we keep find out more and more about Piper and Leo gets over his depression. As we learn more about her from Joanna’s point of view, who ends up taking trips to keep doing her research, we also hear Piper’s side of the story and why she moved across country from her former life. Worried Joanna will exposing her former life, will Leo start to believe Joanna? Are the kids really unsafe? Is Celeste correct in saying this is just paranoid behavior. Little did we know, there’s a TWIST or two coming and they are jaw droppers, or at least they were to me.
Without giving too much away, if you enjoy a good thriller, then this is book is for you. You can probably listen to or read it in one setting! It’s 306 pages or 8 hours and 39 minutes.
