MWR Star is an initiative to recognize exemplary employees in MWR. People who go above and beyond to assist MWR customers and their co-workers. One individual is chosen monthly to be featured as our star, spotlighting details about themselves and their position within MWR.
Our August star is Mrs. Kathleen Duncan from Recreation Division. Kathleen has been with MWR for 11 years in varying capacities. Mrs. Duncan is a Recreation Specialist, she helps to complete paperwork and assists in the planning process for events here. She is also, very happily, the Community Garden coordinator. For the Directorate of Family & MWR she is the Emergency Operation Center liaison and facilitates emergency sheltering or safe haven development for the Fort Gordon Community, as well as, the Safety Officer, Environmental Officer and Protection Working Group representative. As part of her responsibilities, she reviews and updates the related SOP’s for these programs. She is also the MWR Antiterrorism Level II and OPSEC Level II Trainer, as well as, the Red Cross CPR/AED and FA Trainer. In addition to all she does here locally, Kathleen also works with IMCOM MWR as an Installation Emergency Exercise evaluator, traveling to other installation’s MWRs to evaluate their responses to installation exercises. Talk about a hyphenate!
Kathleen was born in Central California and later moved north outside of Napa Valley in Vacaville, CA. She enjoys relaxing in her off time by reading by the bay window in her gorgeous home and gardening in her backyard, as well as, in our on post community garden. She is also putting in a ton of work to remodel her home.
Kathleen’s words of wisdom are, “We cannot change the inevitable. The ONLY thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that’s our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it…and so it is with you – we are in charge of our attitude.”
Kathleen’s favorite aspect of working with MWR is her, MWR Family. MWR is more than just a work place; “my MWR friends are like family, they are a part of my heart” she says.
