Directions to Fort Eisenhower

Fort Eisenhower is best reached via Interstate 20. Take Exit 194 to Belair Road and Dyess Parkway. Follow the Dyess Parkway signs, and also the Fort Eisenhower signs. Dyess Parkway will bring you directly into the post through McKenna Gate, also known as Gate One. Follow the road, which is Chamberlain Avenue, past the guard house. You will see Darling Hall, a three story brick building with a red roof, on your left. Darling Hall is the Personnel Service Center and, most likely, your first stop at Fort Eisenhower. If you are looking for lodging, stop at Griffith Hall (Holiday Inn Express), on the left just inside the gate.

GPS devices are somewhat unreliable for finding your way to Fort Eisenhower and to buildings on the installation.  The "Gate One" address on this page will accurately navigate to the gate.

If traveling to Fort Eisenhower from Augusta Regional Airport, follow the airport exit around to Tobacco Road. It's the road that joins the airport "circle" right in front of the big flag. Take Tobacco Road all the way to Fort Eisenhower. You will enter through Gate 5 onto Avenue of the States. You must have a valid military ID to enter through Gate 5, otherwise you'll have to visit the Visitor Control Center at Gate One. To reach Darling Hall, stay on the same road, which turns into Rice Road. Darling Hall will be on the right at the intersection with Barnes Avenue.

Fort Eisenhower is approximately 142 miles east of Atlanta, 80 miles southwest of Columbia, South Carolina and 122 miles northwest of Savannah, Georgia.

Located about eight miles southwest of Augusta, Fort Eisenhower's location offers close proximity to a metropolitan area and is an easy drive from Atlanta, Savannah, the beaches along the Atlantic Ocean and the mountains.

Installation Access

All DoD personnel entering the installation must present a valid DoD ID card to the guard at the access control point. When the Automated Installation Entry (AIE) system is active, DoD cardholders must swipe their ID card at the AIE pedestal.  DoD personnel who are not registered with AIE can swipe their card and will be automatically registered at the AIE pedestal.

All non-DoD personnel 18 years of age and older requesting access to Fort Eisenhower are required to obtain a favorable NCIC background check and a visitor’s pass at the Visitor Control Center (Gate #6) located off Gordon Highway (US-78) on the east side of post.  Upon arrival at the Visitor Control Center (VCC), the driver and all passengers 18 years of age and older must present the VCC staff with a valid driver’s license or state ID.

If you are arriving for a graduation or other event, plan to arrive very early, as the procedure for running background checks and issuing passes can take much longer than expected.

Privately Owned Weapons

All privately owned firearms, pellet guns, BB guns, bows, and crossbows stored on the installation must be registered with the military police within three working days of arrival or of obtaining the firearm or weapon.

Privately owned firearms may be brought onto Fort Eisenhower only for hunting, dog training, using shooting ranges, and participating in shooting or marksmanship events. Firearms must be registered with the military police using FG Form 9243. Complete information on registration, transportation, and use of firearms is available in FG Regulation 210-13, which is available along with the Personal Firearms and Weapons Registration Form at home.army.mil/eisenhower.

Temporary Lodging

All lodging on Fort Eisenhower is now operated by IHG Army Hotels. Reservations can be made online or by calling 1-877-711-TEAM.

All IHG Army Hotels are pet friendly. Guests traveling with pets may keep the animals with them in their rooms rather than boarding them in a kennel facility. Guests are limited to two pets per room and pets may not exceed 80 pounds. A non-refundable $75 per room cleaning fee will be charged to the guest’s account upon check-in. In addition, there is currently a charge of $10 per night.

Pets are limited to: dogs, cats, and fish (no fee or room charge for fish). Exotic animals such as snakes, birds, and large fish such as piranhas, sharks, etc. are prohibited.

The Augusta area has many hotels and motels at various prices. Most national chains have at least one property in the area, so we recommend you check their web sites if you have a favorite. The closest hotels are located either on Gordon Highway near Bobby Jones Expressway (I-520) or at the I-20 exit (Exit 194) onto Jimmie Dyess Parkway. The Masters golf tournament is held in Augusta every year during the first full week of April.  Lodging is very scarce in the area that week, and tends to be very expensive.  Keep that in mind when making travel arrangements.
